Board approves new elementary school attendance zones for 2023-2024

After a lengthy discussion during its regular meeting last night, our school board voted unanimously to approve Option 4 of the Proposed Rezoning Changes for new elementary school attendance zone boundaries, effective for the 2023-2024 school year. The board did not approve the proposed rezoning Option A for Bee Cave Elementary School.
Option 4 will provide relief to Rough Hollow Elementary School by rezoning neighborhoods on the south side of Highlands Boulevard to Serene Hills Elementary School. Additionally, the Madrone Ridge and Hillcrest neighborhoods in Sweetwater will be rezoned to West Cypress Hills Elementary School. No other elementary schools, or any of the District’s three middle schools, will be impacted by the Option 4 rezoning. Revised resources, including detailed street directory maps with new elementary school attendance zones for 2023-2024, will be available on our website beginning Monday, April 24.
Based on these changes, we are providing the following options to help families who will be directly impacted:
Rough Hollow Elementary School:
Grandfathering: This allows a current 4th grade student to remain at RHE for their 5th grade year. In addition, a younger sibling—or siblings—may also elect to attend RHE while the older brother/sister completes 5th grade during the 2023-2024 school year. After the 2023-2024 school year, the younger sibling(s) must attend the elementary school in the attendance zone in which he/she resides. Please note, families who elect to “grandfather” their child will not be provided with school transportation. More information will be provided to eligible families separately.
Parent Choice Student Transfers: In order to alleviate overcrowding at RHE during the 2022-2023 school year, parents were provided the option to request a transfer of their child to another elementary campus within LTISD. Families who would like to renew their Parent Choice Student Transfer must reapply for the 2023-2024 school year. More information will be provided to eligible families separately. Please note, no new Parent Choice Student Transfer requests out of Rough Hollow Elementary will be accepted.
Bee Cave Elementary School:
Parent Choice Student Transfers: For the 2023-2024 school year, parents may request a transfer of their child out of Bee Cave Elementary School. Students may be transferred to Lake Pointe, Lake Travis, Lakeway, or West Cypress Hills elementary schools, contingent upon available space in the requested grade level. Please note, Rough Hollow and Serene Hills elementary schools are closed to Parent Choice Student Transfers due to current capacity restrictions. When selecting a campus, please note that some special programs are only available at select campuses. Forms will be available on Monday, April 24.
The decision to rezone was not an easy one. It is refreshing to see our community come together in a positive and collaborative manner. This partnership clearly demonstrates that we all want the best for our students and that we can work together as “One Community, focused on One Purpose, committed with All Heart!”
